HDFC and HDFC Bank's merger - touted as India's biggest-ever corporate merger - pumped up shares of the two entities on the bourses. Shares of Housing Finance Development Corporation (HDFC) skyrocketed 9 per cent while those of HDFC Bank zoomed 10 per cent. In comparison, the benchmark S&P BSESensex and the Nifty50 indices settled 2.2 per cent higher on Monday.
With an m-cap of Rs 31,744 crore, IRCTC stood at 96th position in the overall market capitalisation ranking, the BSE data shows.
While Vedanta was the biggest gainer in the Sensex pack rallying 4.67 per cent, others included Tata Steel, ONGC, NTPC, Yes Bank, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Bajaj Finance, L&T and RIL, rising up to 4.13 per cent.
Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, M&M and Tata Motors were the major winners.
Spurt in Infosys scrip was significant in sending the BSE benchmark Sensex higher by 119.15 points to 19,795.21 at 0925 hours.
On Monday, the biggest gainers in the Sensex pack were Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, Vedanta, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank and Kotak Bank, HCL Tech, Infosys and Bajaj Auto.
The NSE Nifty too soared by 118 points to close at 3641.
